How To Fix High RAM and CPU Usage of Windows 10 System Process

Lots of Windows 10 users are reporting on Reddit and Microsoft forums that some processes (ntoskrnl.exe) in Windows 10 are slowing down the OS by consuming tons of RAM and CPU power. Here are some ways to fix high RAM and CPU usage in Windows 10.

Today, I’m here to tell about a bug in Windows 10 that is worrying the Windows 10 users and they are voicing their problem on Reddit and Microsoft’s forums. According to them, some processes (actually ntoskrnl.exe Windows 10) in Windows 10 are slowing down the OS by consuming tons of RAM and CPU power.

The main process that is being observed as troublesome is the System (ntoskrnl.exe) process. Reportedly, this process uses an increasing amount of RAM after PC starts. It remains calm for few hours, but then it eats up all the free RAM and a large portion of CPU juice.

Here, we are sharing some simple fixes to fix memory leak in Windows 10 due to high RAM and CPU usage issue:

Instead of changing any advanced system settings on your PC, make sure that your PC isn’t affected by some malware. Most of the users have upgraded their PCs from older Windows 7 and 8.1, thus, any malware in the previous OS gets migrated to Windows 10. You can install the anti-malware tools like MalwareBytes to deep scan your Windows 10 PC and take the first step in fixing Windows 10 high memory leakage. After the scan, reboot your PC. Now, move to the next solution to fix high RAM and CPU usage if this problem still persists.

How to Fix High RAM and CPU Usage of Windows 10:
1. Registry Hack:
Hit Win Key + R
Type in “Regedit” and then hit Enter.
Go to ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management’
Find ‘ClearPageFileAtShutDown’ and change its value to 1
Restart the computer
2. Fix the driver issue:
Open ‘Device manager’ and ‘Scan for hardware changes’
3. Adjust your Windows 10 for the best performance
Right click on “Computer” icon and select “Properties”
Select “Advanced System settings”
Go to the “System properties”
Select “Settings”
Choose “Adjust for best performance” and “Apply”.
Click “OK” and Restart your computer.
4. Disable startup programs
Hit Win Key + R
Type ‘msconfig’ and press enter
The Task manager window will open. Click on the “Startup” tab and you will see a list of programs that run at startup.
Right click on the applications that you don’t want to run at startup and select “Disable”.
5. Defragment Hard DrivesHit Win Key + R
Hit Win Key + R
Type “dfrgui” and press enter
In the new window click on the hard drives you want to defragment (Prefer the drive in which Windows is installed)
Click “Optimize” and follow the instructions on the screen to finish the defragment process.
Restart your computer.

6. Close and uninstall as many unwanted preinstalled applications as many you can.
The above steps should be sufficient to solve the high CPU uses problem in Windows 10 along with High RAM uses in Windows 10. Below are the steps on containing memory leak and High CPU/ RAM problem due to ntoskrnl.exe process.

Clean your PC using a trusted antivirus
Update the faulty and outdated drivers
Disable Runtime Broker to fix high CPU and memory usage
Go to Start menu > Settings app and then open System > Notifications & Actions. Deselect the option “Show me tips about Windows” and reboot the computer.

On Reddit and Microsoft forums, people have claimed that the root cause of this Windows 10 memory leak is some faulty driver. If you have RAID disk drive setup, update those drivers. Also, try updating the remaining hardware drivers as it’s a problem caused due to unmatching OS and drivers. It is a known fact that Microsoft has decided to take control of the update process. Still, we recommend you to update the network, graphics and sound drivers manually. This step has worked for the most of the people and fixed their high RAM and CPU usage.

Some discussion threads suggest that Runtime Broker is one such system process that eats a large chunk of CPU power due to the poor memory optimization. This ntoskrnl.exe Windows 10 doesn’t deliver any functionality as such, so you can disable it to solve the Windows 10 high memory leakage problem.

To disable the Runtime Broker, open the Settings app and go to System. Inside System window, locate Notifications & Actions and unselect “Show me tips about Windows.” Now restart the PC to bring it back to the normal and fix high RAM and CPU usage.

Windows 8 / Windows 8.1/Windows 10 with issue 100% Disk Usage – Possible Fixes

When you’ve used Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 then you’ll know that once you get used to it, it’s quite good. Yes, there are some bad parts, some annoying parts and some parts that seem pointless. But then, doesn’t every operating system? Anyway, to the point.



Windows 8 and Windows 8.1/10 for some people, has a very annoying and disruptive problem that Microsoft don’t seem willing to fix, and no matter how many forums you look on, nothing is conclusive. I’d like to be able to issue a sweeping fix that resolves it on your computer, but I can’t. Instead, here’s a few “fixes” or, “workarounds” if you like, that have solved it on some machines I’ve come across.

None of these are ideal, and in my own machine, I re-installed Windows 8.1/10 and fingers crossed it’s behaved since.

1. Disable Superfetch and Windows Search Services
Press Windows Key + R
Type in “services.msc” without the quotes, press enter
Find Superfetch in the list, double click it
Press “Stop”
Then change the startup type to “Disabled”
Go to the Recovery tab, and choose all three options to be “Take no action”
Repeat steps 3 – 6 for Windows Search
Close and restart
Cross fingers, hope it solves it

2.Disable BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service)
Press Windows Key + R
Type in “services.msc” without the quotes, press enter
Find Background (BITS)… in the list, double click it
Press “Stop”
Then change the startup type to “Disabled”
Go to the Recovery tab, and choose all three options to be “Take no action”
Repeat steps 3 – 6 for Windows Search
Close and restart
Cross fingers, hope it solves it

3.Change Pagefile Settings
Open up Control Panel (I always set Control Panel to View By Small Icons)
Go to System
Click on Advanced System Settings
Under Performance, click Settings
Go to advanced, click on “Change”
Take the tick out of “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”
Then set it manually
Click set,
Click Ok, then restart
Cross fingers, hope it solves it

4.Turn Off System Restore

Again, not an ideal workaround, but this has worked.
Open up Control Panel
Go to System
Click on “System Protection”
Click on the Local Disk – typically the C Drive
Then click on Configure
Put the spot in the “Disable system protection”
Ok that, close it all, and restart
Cross fingers, hope it solves it

5.Uninstall Google Chrome

Not one of my favourite workarounds, as Google Chrome is my browser of choice, but uninstalling it on one machine after doing all the others listed here did fix it, so it’s worth a go.
Open Control Panel
Go to Programs and Features
Uninstall Google Chrome

6.Re-Install Windows

Obviously not a fix, or a workaround really, but it’s worth noting that if you are having issues, and don’t have too much installed that requires detailed configurations, an operating system reinstall may be your best bet.

In Summary

So those are the methods that have so far worked for me in some combination or another. I have to say, turning off System Restore, and disabling Superfetch and Windows Search are the most effective fixes so far. I’ll be updating this list with more fixes as and when I find them. But who knows, Microsoft may release a fix for it soon …

HOW TO FIX 100% DISK USAGE FOR WINDOWS

Like the title says, we're gonna try to fix the 100% disk usages problem in Windows 8.1.

I have looked at several different systems (Windows 7 and 8) that had the disk usage near 100%. The problem is that each one had a different solution so, it 's hard to say what the fix would be. But I can give you some ideas to help isolate the cause down.



The solution for the 100% disk usages we're gonna use works in Windows 7, 8, 8.1. I didn't test it on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 10.

Step 1: Open the Task Manager



First we're gonna open the task manager and take a look at our disk usages. So as you can see it is now 100% and is slowing our computer down.

You can start task manager by right clicking on the Windows toolbar and selecting "start task manager". When task manager has oppend select the performance tab, open resource monitor, select disk tab

Step 2: Open Cmd.exe



So now that we know that our disk usages is too high we're gonna try to fix that. To fix the problem we're gonna use cmd to stop a Windows service that causes the 100% disk usages.

First open a cmd.exe as a administrator (windows key+x+a) or open it using the windows search function. Once you found it in your search results, right click on it and select "run as administrator"

Step 3: Execute the Cmd Commend
>net stop Spooler

Now we have oppend our cmd.exe we can stop various suspected services and watch how the system responds in resouce monitor.

for example:
net.exe stop superfetch (hit enter and see if your disk usage goes down)
So as you can see or disk usages is now 0%. Problem solved!
